Department of Pathology

The symptoms of a pathological condition can result from one or more body systems of an animal. The holistic investigation of such a medical case requires experience, specialization and the suitable equipment.

Plakentia Veterinary Clinic has the proper know-how and infrastructure (human resources, organization and physical infrastructure) pertinent for the diagnosis and treatment of a great number of pathological conditions such as:

  • Blood disorders (investigation of anaemia, thrombocytopenia, lefkopenia, leykocytosis, coagulation disorders, etc.)
  • Urinary system conditions (Chronic Kidney Disease, Acute Renal Failure, Feline lower urinary tract disease, urinary tract infection, leithiasis, etc.)
  • Infectious diseases (leishmaniosis, ehrlichiosis, dirofilariasis, anaplasmosis, haemoplasmosis, Feline leukemia virus, Feline immunodeficiency virus, toxoplasmosis, etc.)
  • Endocrine diseases (Addison’s disease, Cushing Syndrome, Diabetes Mellitus, Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, etc.)
  • Oncological diseases (Lymphoma, Mastocytoma, Leukaemia, abdominal/thoracic neoplasms)
  • Respiratory system disorders (trachea diseases, bronchial pneumonopathies, pleural effusion, etc.)

Imaging Tests

The immediate performance of abdominal radiographies and ultrasound scans using state-of-the-art equipment contributes to the early diagnosis of pathological cases admitted to our Clinic.

The clinic has an internal lab with specialized veterinary analysers (such as hematology analyser, liquid and dry chemistry biochemistry analyser, hormone analyser, blood gas analysers, haemostasis time analyser, and urine analyser), microscope, as well as specialized serological tests. The ability of on-site analyses offers the fast and reliable diagnosis of a pathological case. For the completion of specialized tests (serological, hormonal) the samples are sent to specialised labs.

Biological Material Sampling

Biological material sampling is a very important diagnostic process. The clinic collaborates with reliable microbiological, cytological and histopathological labs in Greece and abroad and dispatches the samples taken.

Ultrasonic tomography helps to the material taking (cytology, tru-cat biopsy)
from the affected areas of organs and masses. In addition, bone marrow aspiration,
collection aspiration and liquid analysis are also performed in the clinic.

The 24-hour hospitalization is the cornerstone of the healing process of a pathological case. The presence of experienced veterinarians and nurses 24 hours a day ensures our patients the provision of the proper and personalized care.

Blood transfusions

At Plakentia Veterinary Clinic, it is possible to perform transfusions of both total blood and its products. In particular, among the services provided is the transfusion of total blood, packed red blood cells, as well as fresh frozen plasma, while there is also the possibility to transfuse cryoprecipitate and cryosupernatant, upon communication with the Clinic. In addition, the administration of human albumin is also possible.

The transfusion of blood and blood products is always made after the conduction of the necessary compatibility tests (blood types, compatibility tests - crossmatching). The administration of blood and blood products is a process that requires continuous monitoring and check of the animal, both during the procedure itself and within the next 24 hours after that. At our Clinic, it is performed under all the possible safeguards.

Department of Oncology

The increase in the average life expectancy of companion animals has made the appearance of oncological health disorders in our little companions more and more common. Today, many of these problems can be treated successfully, especially if they are diagnosed in time. A great number of oncological cases can either be treated or be brought under control, ensuring life lifetime extension and good life quality.

At Plakentia Veterinary Clinic, we can make the diagnosis and treatment of a plethora of oncological cases possible. Diagnosis of such cases includes imaging tests such as radiological and ultrasonography exams.

For the conduction of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging exams, as well as cytological, histopathological and immunohistochemical tests, our Clinic collaborates with specialized centers in Greece and abroad. Thus, there is the possibility to perform specialized tests such as PCR for Antigen Receptor Rearrangement (PARR) and flow cytometry. Therapeutic approach is made with the biggest safety possible and includes both surgical and medical (chemotherapeutic) treatment.
